English For Life
Open a door, change a life
Here’s how:
This is JC
Three years ago, JC didn’t speak English. But he wanted to see the world.
Then a couple from Oregon sponsored him at EFL.
And he put in the work.
Now listen to him.
JC just landed a job in Barcelona.
The interview was in English.
And he nailed it.
This is my mission with English For Life Academy.
To fulfill on the promise that English opens doors.
To give students in my new hometown of Bahía de Caráquez, Ecuador a chance to travel, learn, and build a better life for them and their families.
I founded EFL three years go and along the way a few generous friends and family have pitched in. But until now I’ve never solicited funds.
If you’re inclined, we have some specific funding needs with the holidays coming up.
Contributions can be made on a one-time or monthly basis with the widget below.
THE FINE PRINT
Your contribution to English For Life is NOT tax deductible. My wife and I run EFL as a social enterprise but it is not a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
We charge $60 per month for classes, and every dollar we generate is reinvested into the Academy in the form of teacher salaries, materials and overhead.
There are no profits. If there ever are, they’ll be put right back into the Academy.
Your contributions help us offer a better experience for existing students, better support our teachers, and most importantly make sure that English is available to ALL students in our community - not just those whose families can afford it.
Who we are
My name is Andrew Jeffery and after 40 years living in the US, my family and I have called Bahía home since 2019.
We founded English For Life Academy in 2022 to give students in Bahía de Caráquez, Ecuador the most powerful tool available to change their lives: English.
We employ local English teachers and supplement weekly activities with visits from native speaking volunteers to enrich our students educational experience with genuine culture interactions.
EFL is our gift to a community that has given us so much, and there is no greater gift the students here can receive than the English language.
As the story about JC shows, it really does open doors.
